Memories in Father's Day

Paul
teaches us to think about good and positive things in Philippians 4:8.
As I think about my father who passed away about five years ago these
thoughts come to mind. Many of my relatives mentioned that my father was
handsome which made my mother very happy and proud because they said he
resembled Prince Philip, husband of the Queen. He was very strong and
tall yet he often served in lowly ways. He liked to cook and was the main
chef at home and the church. Some of the favorite dishes I enjoyed most
were: deep fry breaded pork chop, black mushroom, tender bamboo shoot
and chicken fillet, ginger sprout and beef steak… Besides cooking, my
father did the laundry and ironed our clothes. Whenever there was any
repair works needed, he had a way to fix it: torn books, broken furniture,
shatter window, worn out shoes, ripped pants, backed up toilet etc. Dad
took good care of our family. He took mom and all four sons to school
where mom was a teacher. He spent time with us and helped us with school
work. When I was in elementary school, my father composed a script for
my speech contest in which I represented the school and won a $40 gift
certificate. Dad was great in arts and craft. He was especially helpful
when we had school projects. Dad taught me many things including swimming,
biking and playing Chinese chess. During the summer holiday, we often
spent a whole day in the beach and had so much fun as a family. Dad was
a Godly man. He prayed, read the Bible often, and never missed a Sunday
of worship and ministry. He taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
He taught me Proverbs 30:7-9 so I will remember to revere God, to be honest
and to be content. My last encounter with my father was when we said farewell
to each other. Mom and dad were on board on a chartered bus to church
retreat. I gave dad a hug and he kissed me on my face. I don't remember
ever kissed by daddy but that was a good one and will forever stay in
my memory. I thank my God for the many fond memories with my father. I
pray that you have a meaningful Father's Day. If not, remember we have
a perfect Father in heaven. He never forgets and will never forsake us.
