MARGINS
Cindy Hong
Because
it takes me 400 words to say what a smart person can say in a 100, this
page is usually packed with words squeezed in at 8 point font. Perhaps
that's how most of us live our lives in the 21st century, packed with
activities, one running into another, like my run-on sentences. We're
overloaded, fragmented, and pooped. God is grumbled at in morning traffic
or gets mumbled to as we stumble for the bed at night. Advent signals
the beginning of a new year on the church calendar, where we make room
for Christ once again in our lives, living in expectation at his arrival
and break through. In Jesus' first coming, the Bethlehem Inn had no room
for Him. Neither did many people, including His own family. Now we long
for His second coming (some days more than others). And in between the
comings we wait and live with hope. He is on the verge of doing something
wonderful today. Do we have room in our hearts for it? For Him? Lord,
help us to clear the debris this Advent season so that we have room to
expect Your presence. Help us create more margins so there's room for
You to scribble Your notes to us. Slow us down. Open our eyes. Lift our
heads. Help us to notice You, every day, every hour. Amen.
