Who Is This Man?

Mark 1:1-11

1.  Can you share who you think Jesus is?

         V. 1-3

          2.   In v.1, the very beginning of this book, what are the two (2) titles Mark used to call Jesus?

3.  What do these titles reveal to you about Jesus' status, identity and work?

4.  What was Mark trying to emphasize when he quoted Isaiah's prophecy at the beginning of this gospel?

5.   What do we know about John the Baptist from this prologue? We are told about the way, the road and the path of this Messiah. From your    

      understanding of the scripture, can you share what this path is like?

         V. 4-8

6.   How did John describe Jesus? What do we learn about Jesus' status, power and mission?

7.   What is the meaning of “…he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit”? If Jesus' mission is to cleanse us from sin and transform us into God's   

      likeness, how often do you seek to be cleansed and transformed? How is this evident in your daily life?

8.   Who is Jesus in your heart? The Highest Master or the “Jeannie” of Aladdin?

9.  In v. 5, we learn that John was an effective messenger. From v. 7-8, what kind of attitude do we find in

               him?

         10. Do you agree that we too are messengers of the gospel of Jesus Christ? With John the Baptist as our

    model, can you list some of the characteristics of this messenger? Can you think of some situations where the messenger may have become the  

    center of attention and obstructed the Message? Can you identify areas in your life that you need to change/adjust so that you can be a more  

    effective messenger?

         V. 9-11

         11.   Please in your own words describe what occurred at Jesus' baptism? Who were present?

         12.   What are the significances that the Holy Spirit and the Father were present when the Son was baptized?

         13.   John proclaimed the superiority and sanctifying power of Jesus in v. 7-8, what other aspects of Jesus were announced by the Father in v. 11?

         14.   Can you recap the key descriptions of who Jesus is, according to this passage?
