YOUTH MINISTRY

HCC Youth Ministry wants to help youth and their families become God-loving and compassionate disciples of Jesus Christ through helping them to ENTER the family of God, ENGAGE their faith and get INVOLVED in Kingdom work.   To help youth ENTER, we have Oxygen.  ENGAGEment happens in Discipleship Groups or mentoring.  Getting INVOLVED happens in Servant Teams.

Oxygen

Sundays @ 11:00AM in the Youth Center

(Joint worship in the English Service @9:15am)

A weekly ENTER event with large-group interaction; relevant, youth-led worship; and small-group interaction with the Bible.  After meeting together for a period of time at 11:00am, youth break out into smaller groups (based either on age or interest) to discuss the Bible.

Each Sunday we want to create an atmosphere where middle school and high school students can ENTER into the family of God and find friendship and community with one another. We stress the development of a love for Jesus, our Lord and savior; a Biblical Christian worldview found in Bible-based teaching; and being bold to take initiative in their faith.  We also want to foster community; authenticity, vulnerability, relevant teaching, and spiritual practices as these are important cornerstones to community worship.

inSpire
A safe place to hang out with new friends, ask questions, and explore the faith through Scripture
Fridays from 7:30pm - 9:30pm in the Youth Center

A bridge between ENTER and ENGAGE, inSpire is a large-group time for middle school and high school students to meet and hang out. Throughout the evening, we'll have fun activities and a chance to explore questions of relevance to today's students. Questions can be asked safely and answers worked on together with the community. This is also our opportunity to dig deep into the primary source of truth, the Bible.

Servant Teams

Students taking initiative to meet the needs they see
Meet weekly @ various times with regular “ministry” duties either within the church or outside. 

A regular INVOLVE group where we encourage youth to initiate, lead, and serve.  These are student-led and student-driven teams with a ministry focus; they are “D-groups with a mission.”  This is a high commitment group.  Servant Teams can form throughout the year.

What is "Discovery Camp" and "Impact"?

Discovery Camp ("D-Camp") and Impact are the fun-filled summer camps that our middle school and high school students participate in every summer to learn, relax, and build community through different workshops, messages, and free time (and maybe the eating). Discovery Camp is for incoming 6th graders to graduating 8th graders and Impact is for graduating 9th graders to graduating 12th graders. Co-sponsored with West Houston Chinese Church, Katy Christian Community Church, and Chinese Baptist Church, we partner with other Houston-area and Port Lavaca churches to provide students with an awesome summer experience of life in an edifying community of God.
